Hanna (Julie Garner) and Liv (Jessica Henwick) run out of money while backpacking through Australia and are forced work at The Royal Hotel, a bar in the outback. The rundown bar is filled nightly with rowdy men and the two you women are quickly confronted and expected to fit in and accept both minor and more challenging advances. While Liv is more accepting Hanna becomes worried about their safety. Tension continues to build at the bar as both women accept or challenge the status quo of bar.

Along with the strong performance from both leads, Hugo Weaving (Billy the drunk bar owner) is excellent both the protector of the women and the enabler of the male patrons. THE ROYAL HOTEL tears apart the dynamics of men and women in this suffocating drama thriller.

“The Royal Hotel is uncommonly powerful. Kitty Green has made a perfect socially conscious thriller for the #MeToo era. It’s one of the year’s best films.” M.N. Miller Geek Vibes Nation

“Julia Garner and Jessica Henwick turn in layered, nuanced performances, while the male actors playing varying degrees of scumbag are suitably and effectively nauseating and intimidating…” Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times

“The central terror of Green’s ferociously tense, intelligent movie is the terror of recognition.” Jessica Kiang Los Angeles Times
