If your sleep is affected by your partner’s nighttime bad habits, you’re going to want to see SLEEP. In this South Korean film, expectant mother Soo-jin wakes up one night to the unsettling sight of her husband sitting on the bed muttering “someone is inside” before falling back into a deep sleep. The following nights becoming increasingly restless as Hyun-su’s sleepwalking increases, and the couple’s once perfect marriage begins to worsen under with the thoughts that Hyun-su might unconsciously hurt himself, Soo-jin, or the unborn baby. Their family doctor prescribes her husband medication to help him sleep, but a meeting with a shaman leads Soo-jin, who has quit sleeping altogether, to believe that her husband’s nighttime behaviours have a paranormal cause.

Debut director Jason Yu, who worked as an assistant director to PARASITE director Bong Joon-ho, is a up and coming star in South Korean cinema with this unique and unsettling psychological nightmare. With nods to more than a couple of horror classics (including THE SHINING) Yu proves that he knows his horror, all while establishing a distinct, demented style of his own. And he’s assembled an incredible cast, including Jung Yu-mi (TRAIN TO BUSAN) and Lee Sun-kyun (PARASITE) who will keep you guessing, are there really supernatural forces at play, or is it just a lack of sleep.
