Comedic genius Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords) is Casper, an unprepared time traveller who travels to the 2020s to prevent a major future catastrophe. He befriends Holly, an adult who’s tired of adulting, and she soon exploits his minor knowledge of the future for a series of quick payouts. But as is the moral in every good time travelling tale, you shouldn’t alter the future, and it’s not long before their interference attracts the attention of Doris, a much more competent time traveller who will stop them at all costs.

RELAX, I’M FROM THE FUTURE the feature directorial debut from Canadian writer/director/editor Luke Higginson expands on his 2013 short film of the same name. The feature is fully driven by its cast with Casper treating time travel more like a magic trick than a mission to save the future, and the jaded Holly quickly realising that there’s much more to time and space than winning scratch lottery tickets. The joy in the film is that despite its apocalyptic high stakes, it doesn’t take itself too seriously. RELAX I’M FROM THE FUTURE perfectly shows that there are still original tales to tell in the time-travel genre.

“A quickly paced slice of silly speculative fiction buoyed by the energetically off-kilter comedy stylings of Rhys Darby. He’s an edgy Mork from Ork, an otherworldly being, charmingly childlike but not above doing the drugs Holly offers him.” Richard Crouse

“It’s funny, quotable, and unique while constantly finding new ways to feed off the leads’ performances. Higginson has built upon his original short film into a fleshed-out feature more than worth a watch to fans of sci-fi comedies.” Josiah Teal Film Threat

“As an excellent mix of comedy and science fiction, neither overwhelms the other genre, even with the odd friendship paring and doomsday looming.” Katie Hogan Filmhounds Magazine
