Sasha is a young (62 year old/teenage) vampire with a serious issue–as a distant descendant of Nosferatu she needs to feed on blood to stay alive but she’s too sympathetic to the humans to kill them. At their wits end, her parents cut off her ethically sourced blood bags and although she refuses to compromise her principles, Sasha needs to get out of her comfort zone and become resourceful to nourish her undead body. And that’s when she meets Paul, a loner with suicidal tendencies who may just be the solution to her problem.

Canadian filmmaker Ariane Louis-Seize makes her feature-length directorial debut with this horror, comedy, coming of age, romance film. Audiences won’t expect a vampire movie to be so sweet, but HUMANIST VAMPIRE SEEKING CONSENTING SUICIDAL PERSON masterfully weaves together the vampire mythos you know and love with quirkiness, humour, and romance to create a vampire tale unlike any you’ve seen before. You’ll have a bloody good time with our 2023 festival opening film.

“Ariane Louis-Seize makes her feature-length directorial debut with this daring and daffy horror-comedy that plays like Romeo and Juliet meets Beetlejuice and Amelie.” Kristy Puchko Mashable

“Landing somewhere between a gothic Wes Anderson film, What We Do in the Shadows and every teen coming-of-age story ever, the vibes of Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person are unique, quirky and fun.” Matthew Simpson Exclaim!

“‘What We Do In The Shadows’ for people who grew up loving the soft goth girl vibes of Emily The Strange and Lydia Deetz.” Marya E. Gates RogerEbert.com
