Isolated in his mansion in some future wasteland, mad scientist and pharmaceutical CEO Jaxxon Pierce (Stephen Dorff – BLADE, CECIL B. DEMENTED) works obsessively to perfect Divinity, his culture-defining fountain of youth drug that provides health and vitality, but leaves the users infertile, and its production comes with an unthinkable cost. And now comes a reckoning, in the form of a mystical-powered fertility cult and two brothers from the stars intent on giving Jaxxon a taste of his own medicine.

One of the very few films in recent memory that truly belong to the Midnight Movie tradition, this Steven Soderbergh produced oddity, shot in glorious black and white, is a stylized head-trip with provocative ideas about consumerism, hedonism, and environmental collapse. Sexy and grotesque in equal measure, DIVINITY revels in the excess of its retro-future art direction, shimmering perfect bodies, and multi-discipline special effects. Featuring Scott Bakula as Jaxxon’s father and Bella Thorn as a cult leader, I can safely say you’ll not see a film more ambitious or bizarre this year.
