Two guys wonder what the heck is going on with their roommate the morning after a wild party.

The zombie movie that was the opening film of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival is in this year’s SFFF! Watch the beginning of this film very carefully because it’s going to raise a lot of questions. Why do these French people have Japanese names? Why is the acting so strange? What’s with the wobbly crane shot? But everything becomes clear as this crazy metafiction keeps unraveling. And if you want to discover the answers on screen—STOP READING HERE.

COUPEZ is a remake of the 2017 Japanese cult hit ONE CUT OF THE DEAD. If you know that movie, that makes this one essentially a remake about a remake, which makes it even more eccentric and fun than the original. At first, the film appears to be about the making of a low-budget French zombie movie, which is interrupted by real zombies. But in reality, the crew is creating a continuous single-take, 30-minute movie, being filmed on the lowest budget imaginable. If a mistake is made, they must improvise a solution. Flashbacks fill in the missing pieces and show us the bizarre compromises and negotiations that led up to this outrageous situation. The fantastic result is a breath of fresh air in the zombie genre itself.

“Inspiring and uplifting in equal amounts, Harvey and Kummer’s fangs-and-all documentary is, like its subject, one of a kind.”

“By the triumphant curtain call, as young Scott trots onstage for a very professional bow in full Xenomorph garb, it’s clear “Alien on Stage” has completely captured the hearts of the audience – film, theater, and Christopher Guest lovers alike.”

“You will be giggling and laughing your way throughout as the cast flounce and flounder through a stage production like no other. It is absolutely glorious.”
