A man late for work can’t seem to stop stepping in it.
Undoubtedly one of the craziest films of the entire festival, SMOKING CAUSES COUGHING follows the misadventures of the Tobacco Force, a team of five Power-Rangers-meet-Daft-Punk superheroes known individually as Benzene, Nicotine, Methanol, Mercury and Ammonia. After an exhausting battle against a fiendish giant turtle, the Tobacco Force’s boss, a drooling playboy rat named Didier, sends the squad on a mandatory week-long retreat in the woods to rebuild their team spirit. While entertaining each other with a series of insane campfire stories, their retreat is interrupted when Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides he will annihilate planet Earth.
Best known for films like MANDIBLES and RUBBER, Quentin Dupieux is back in full force with the wildly entertaining SMOKING CAUSES CANCER. With a world premiere at Cannes festival’s Midnight section and a newly acquired deal with Magnolia, SFFF is excited to bring this film to the Broadway Theatre.
“Quentin Dupieux has delivered his wildest, most entertaining film yet,”– Magnolia Pictures President Eamonn Bowles.
“Inspiring and uplifting in equal amounts, Harvey and Kummer’s fangs-and-all documentary is, like its subject, one of a kind.” – Marc Savlov, Austin Chronicle
“By the triumphant curtain call, as young Scott trots onstage for a very professional bow in full Xenomorph garb, it’s clear “Alien on Stage” has completely captured the hearts of the audience – film, theater, and Christopher Guest lovers alike.” – Jude Dry, Indiewire
