One morning, Benno finds sand in his bed. He tries to ignore this at first, but he soon realizes that he himself is loosing the sand. Day after day the sand increases and soon his time starts running short. He is left no choice but to ask Sandra for help, Although Benno hates her with a passion, he has been having dreams of her every night. What could Sandra and the dreams have to do with the sand?

“I have come to hate movies that people describe as quirky. They tend to be completely thoughtless and finish with uninspired, uplifting endings. I can say with great pleasure that The Sandman is an inspired, original film and everything a quirky movie should be.” – Filmbalaya

Der Sandmann is a very charming film that is funny, engaging, and well put together.  It also has a sweetness to it, which I think should be able to balance out the strangeness that some may find in its premise.  I embrace the strange, however, so to me, I was pleased to find a romantic comedy that manages to be different from the usual blandness and create a unique premise that is fully realized and adds to the visual sense of a film.  Very entertaining, creative, and thoughtful.” – WhySoBlu

“Bright, beautiful, romantic, and incredibly bizarre The Sandman is a must see film.” – Random Walk Through Film

Programmer’s Opinion

Quirky movies can either fail or succeed depending on two main factors. The first is whether or not there is a story to be told and secondly if the quirkiness serves a purpose. Peter Luisi has a wonderful story and the quirkiness of THE SANDMAN is well developed and earned. Without out a doubt this is our most sweet, touch and cute film. The hatred turned to romance story between Benno (Fabian Krüger) and Sandra (Frölein Da Capo) is both touching and fun to watch. THE SANDMAN is a flight of fancy that will have you walking away smiling and feeling good. – John Allison
